𧲠AWS CTO Keynote
Keynote from AWS CTO – Werner Vogels – was nothing short of impressive. From the delivery to the new tech being uncovered. Powerful takeaway still echo: “There is no good data without big data.” Big data is the haystack. The magnet that finds the needle in the haystack is Machine Learning (ML). Architecting is a series of tradeoffs and cost optimisation is an incremental process. Amazon Q and container inspection in the pipelines were announcements of note to me. π hashtag#BigData hashtag#Machinelearning
π₯οΈ Canonical chat
Engaged in an enlightening interview with Canonical, the powerhouse behind Ubuntu. Shared my journey, starting with Ubuntu 14, and emphasized the pivotal role of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in the software world. With 90% of software engineers relying on FOSS, we should all look at how we can contribute back to it for its posterity. I learnt about Ubuntu enterprise and how it goes beyond just an OS to provide secure images for docker containers and timely security patching SLAs when CVEs emerge.
βοΈ All Builders Welcome closing reception
We concluded the program with a memorable reception, capturing incredible moments of the Grant cohort of 2023. It was an honor to be among such a diverse and talented group of individuals. The highlight was a surprise visit from Adam Selipsky, the CEO of AWS. I seized the moment for a selfie, and the inspiration was instant. Listening to the impactful stories, highlights, and lessons shared by fellow grantees was truly moving. In turn, I felt compelled to speak, and left the group with words of inspirationβencouraging each to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination. Grateful for the experience and the shared journey.
π Balancing Work and Fun
The day concluded with the epic re:Play party, headlined by Major Lazer. AWS knows how to strike the perfect balance between working and having fun. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. The party was massive, a testament to the vibrant community that AWS fosters. πΆπ₯³ There was an open bar, making throats open for business – keeping the massed hydrated π¦. There was complimentary food and memorabilia swag. There were activities for everyone – dodgeball, RC racing, a maze, dancing competitions and giant slides.
Every day at hashtag#AWSreInvent unfolded new dimensions of knowledge and connection. Indeed this was a learning conferencee! I learnt about the new tech, learnt about myself, learnt about other peopleβs experiences, learnt how to implement architectures on AWS, learnt how to re:Invent.
